- I took my first stitches in a piece of crewel work at the age of four--that was not the craft I was looking for. Grandma taught me to knit in my early teens; I still do that on rare occasions, but I knew that wasn't what I was looking for either. I started my first cross-stitch project in college, and knew I'd found my hobby. About ten years later it was joined by needlepoint, and I've been starting projects in both ever since. Every few years I actually finish something....
